Summary

Kelley Garcia
As a project manager I lead the effort to make dreams a reality.
As a professional project manager, PMI certified since 1999, I am now including the industry of real estate to my areas of expertise. As a real estate agent I'm focusing on residential sales, purchases, and rentals. I'm also passionate about sustainable communities,  the tiny house movement, and brilliant housing alternatives. I continue working on VR projects, 360 photography, and various websites. My key project management skills such as communications, planning, risk management, scheduling, and high customer satisfaction will translate well in the Real Estate world.

Also a lifelong environmentalist and writer. A blogger and podcaster since the mid-1990s. More recently a video producer and professional voice over performer. For fun – a music lover, host of the KelZone Radio Show, virtual world DJ and avid gamer.

Questions & Answers

Why did you choose your profession?
I was working as a Business Analyst when the WWW launched. IBM was keen to get into that market and I found myself as part of a team sent to meet a client and assess their web requirements in order to respond to an RFP. We ended up closing that deal.  The project managers available were reluctant to manage the deal because no one had ever managed a web project. I stepped up as the project manager for the job and the rest is history.
Who are your main influences?
I am drawn to people who think outside the box and have unique attitudes and beliefs. People who influence me include Elon Musk, Jane Goodall, James Lovelock, and John Cooper Fitch.
Describe your greatest accomplishment.
Without a doubt my greatest accomplishment has been raising an extraordinary, talented, intelligent, healthy, caring son - nothing else comes close.
What tools do you use?
Wonderful tools for efficient communications are WIKI, SLACK and GITHUB. MS Office and Project are the gold standard for project control book deliverables but I also use Open Source PM tools. MindMap apps are great for ad hoc collaborations and sharing ideas. I also use many apps in the Adobe suite particularly Photoshop and Audition. Building websites is also a good tool depending on the desired purpose.
What are you working on right now?
  • Real Estate adventures
  • Learning Spanish!
  • Projects for sound engineering and recording.
  • A data warehouse site focused on climate change. (Completed stage 1)
  • Completing the VR Specialty education offered by University of London (Completed!)
  • Building a Virtual Reality personal computer. (Completed!)
What are your long-term goals?
To continue to keep up with the rapidly changing, ever evolving world of high technology and to couple that passion with my project management skills for managing projects that are meaningful to me and are helpful to the natural world and society in general.
